
Jazmine Sullivan was born in and was raised at home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother has been a back-up singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five Her father was appointed as one of the cities' Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into the mansion's historical building. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of an alumna of the vocal music department. Sullivan sang as a contralto singer for the children's choir and then just a few years later, she was a singer in the adults choir. Sullivan wasn't exposed to secular music until he was a teenager. "I began singing in solos in the church, and someone suggested I sign up to gospel records at the age of 11. However, I was not ready for it," she says. "Then the time came that McDonald's offered a competition to children in cities of the world, I got a chance to perform 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". Stevie Wonder sang her part at his 13th birthday. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age fifteen. The label initially signed Sullivan to Jive Records around the age of fifteen. She produced an entire album but this album didn't get released. Sullivan was then dropped by the label. The singer had a great working relationship and Missy Elliott. Elliott produced several of her songs and tracks, such as "Backstabbers" and "Backstabbers," which was produced by Timbaland.
